News About Talk America/Cavalier Merger
Cavalier Telephone and Talk America announced that their merger will close on schedule as planned. Talk America shareholders approved the $8.10 per share cash offer by Cavalier in a nearly unanimous vote in favor of the deal. Cavalier proceeded with the merger shortly after.
This creates one of the largest full service CLEC providers in the U.S. with a projected revenue of $750 million and $15 million in operating cash flow. The “new” company will operate under the Cavalier Telephone and TV name and has over 600,000 customers. Cavalier has leveraged its billion dollar fiber network vaulted to establish national prominence in the competitive telecom field. Cavalier is already expanding its fiber optic network throughout the areas previously dominated by Talk America, including Ohio, Michigan and selected Southeast regions.
Ed Meyercord, the Chief Executive Officer of Cavalier (former CEO of Talk America Inc.) commented, “Cavalier will capitalize on the strengths of both companies to take share in our markets. The combination of industry leading customer provisioning and servicing systems, over 2000 dedicated employees, unparalleled network technology, with a cost conscious entrepreneurial mindset ensures Cavalier will be a major player in the telecommunications arena.”
